Orphanage
Lighthouse Children’s Home began in 2003. Amol and Rachel took an 8 year old by named Sagar into their home and the orphanage began! As of July 2010 we have 74 children in our daily care.
Lighthouse Children’s Home began with a unique vision. Our vision is to rescue the most desperate children, and care for them as if they were our very own. To reach the children who have no one else, and love them as if they have been ours all along!
Lighthouse Children’s Home takes in children who have been permanently separated from their parents due to death or abandonment, and provides those children with care on a full-time, long-term basis. The children’s legal custody is turned over to the home and they stay until they are able to go out into the world on their own. Our objective is to help these children develop into productive members of their communities through education, vocational training, Christian discipleship, and the development of other life skills. Our hope is that through our ministry, the children will see the wonderful testimony they have, and go and share with the world what God has done for them.
The children come from a wide range of backgrounds. They have been separated from their parents by death, or have been abandoned. Some have lost parents to sickness and accidents, while others have seen their parents commit suicide in front of them. One thing they all have in common, they have no long-term living situation and Lighthouse Children’s Home is their last hope.
We want to break the cycle of poverty by equipping the children to support themselves and their future families. Many of the children have been out of school for a year or more when they come to the home. We provide tutors and help them to catch up so they can graduate from high school at a reasonable age.
Most of all we want to see the children filled with Jesus and find a hope for their future. This requires much love and attention to the children who have been abused in every way. They need a place to call their own and a family that loves them. LCH provides this for the children and you can see a tremendous difference in them in even a month after arrival. Children who had no personality and could not smile on arrival find joy and love at the home from brothers, sisters, a father and a mother. It is an amazing transformation that only God can do.
The vision of LCH is to one day raise, love and care for 1000 of India’s 26 million orphaned and abandoned children!
LCH is different than most orphanages in India. Because we want our children to feel like they are part of a family we are building an orphan cottage for every 25 children. They will be cared for by house parents - couples, or widows - who are called to minister to children in this capacity. The final plan for our campus is 40 cottages for the 1000 children. A clinic, school, church and playgrounds are also included in the plans.
The campus and cottages are sponsored by individuals and churches who want to invest in the lives of these children. There are many ways you can be involved in helping us provide what they need.
- By coming and loving the children and letting them know how special they are.
- By giving donations of clothes and supplies as mentioned in newsletters and reports. (please send only what is requested)
- By sponsoring a child
- By serving on a medical camp or teaching team.
- By serving long term as a teacher or on staff with the home.
