At our Bible College we train about 15 young women annually. Along with their church planting training we teach them to be "tent makers" to help support themselves so they can give their lives to ministry and not be restricted to donated funds.

The goal is to train women with the skill of sewing to use for their family, as well as a business, to help support themselves and the local church and ministry.

The girls have class for an hour, 5 days a week and hands on home work over the weekends. A local woman teaches the classes and the girls are trained on pedal machines. These machines are the most common and practical in India because they do not require electricity and can be used in villages even during the frequent power outages.

In India the majority of clothes are tailor made. Everything from men's suits to the traditional sari blouse are tailor made by special order. The skill of sewing is one of the most useful trades for Indian women. They can also go beyond making clothes and design and make purses, curtains, pillow covers and quilts to sell.
